Pathfinder Pre-Demo Version


Today is the first external release of Pathfinder, let's talk about the pre-demo build. 

The pre-demo means many things for the game's state, but most importantly, this is the first time that Pathfinder has been playable outside of the inner circle. This build is still a work in progress and has some known bugs that will be addressed here, however, the games levels and core functionality are ready to be tested. This is an early access build of the demo where you'll get the chance to play the game, and I'll be able to get hands-on feedback from players. 

Let's talk about bugs

This is the PRE-DEMO, and this is my first game launch. There will be things that break, and I'm probably only aware of some of them. Before you get into the game, here are some things to consider. 

  • In Browser
    • UI issues when not in fullscreen. 
      • The game and its UI are not yet optimized for web, go into the settings menu on the main menu and toggle fullscreen to fix the abnormalities with the HUD. 
    • UI issues when in fullscreen  :(
      • Sorting order issues (hotfix inbound)
    • Save / Load 
      • Saving and loading only works per session on web right now, once again the current code base is focused solely on the downloadable versions of the game, I will need to expand the current save/load system to properly carry your data between sessions. 
  • Universal
    • Can stack jumps in the pause menu (hotfix inbound)
    • When transitioning level scenes the fade effect does not cover all UI elements 
    • Some level transitions do not render correctly  (hotfix inbound)

Other things 

While this version isn't perfect, I'm beyond excited to start showing Pathfinder to the world. I'm looking forward to hearing about your experiences, and figuring out the final fixes as we get closer to the demo launch. On a final note here are some things I wanted to address, these are some features and in-progress changes coming in the near future.
