Finding a new path!

Today we’ve got a long one!

TL:DR PATHFINDER IS MOVING TO GODOT.

  • Along with the engine change I aim to release pathfinder 1.0, bringing with it new levels and features!

I’m sitting here now post game-jam and in the wake of my midterms, thinking about one thing. That thing is Pathfinder, I love this game! Not only was the demolouge my first official game release, but the project that turned into Pathfinder was something that felt like a true turning point for me on my journey to grow not only as a game developer, but as a programmer, and as a creative. It challenged me in every way possible, and it only kept going at release! I was beyond excited to get to work on fixing bugs and implementing the things that people felt were missing.

I worked on the game full steam ahead for the remained of my summer, right up until it was time to start my next semester of class. Overall post-launch was a great success in my mind, and the weeks following the initial release were some of the most exciting time I’ve spent as a game developer. But this time was relatively short lived.

  • I killed my git-hub repository
  • and the PC with the source code doesn’t live with me.

I felt frozen and I wasn’t really sure what moving forward looked like.

Now I do.

I have a strong most of the assets used in the original game available to me right now. I also conveniently MADE the game, so I know what I did and what is really good is I know a lot of things I’d loved to have done differently. For the past month or two I’ve been using Godot, so far I’ve completed a game jam with it and I’ve been steady working on a platformer that I’m very pleased with! So pathfinder is coming to Godot. In the near future, we’re talking weeks or days, Pathfinder is going to begin a total remake. I want to bring the existing Pathfinder experience to you just as I left it, and bring with that a suite of new levels and additions that would have likely been released over the past couple of months that I’ve been separated from the game.

All of this is so fresh, it really has just started here and now. I’m really looking forward to this, and I hope to see some of you along with me on this ride! I’m still in the middle of my semester so I can’t promise anything weekly at this time, but as I work I will be releasing regular updates along the way!
