Pathfinder: Checking in and Keeping it Real

Hey Itch!

I hope this message finds you well. It's been a while since there's been any updates, I wanted to come here to update you all once again on the state of pathfinder and future endeavors!

Currently, I'm pushing through to end out my sophomore semester at college. This has impacted the regular cadence of Pathfinder updates, with the end of summer marking the last few game updates as well as the start of classes.  At my dorm I work entirely off my laptop, prior to moving in I broke something with my GitHub repo and my the files I can pull are vastly out of date. I was waiting for the opportunity to remedy this on my PC back home, but the opportunity just hasn't presented itself yet. At this current point in time I don't have access to my unity files for the game and can't actively work on it until this is resolved.

In the meantime, there is still things happening! While I can't share too many specific details at this time, there are two projects in the works progressing steadily alongside the current circumstances. The first of which, another unity project which is currently only referred to as GDP:

Work on this one has been slow, but I have been fleshing out features and visuals to experiment with the look and feel of the world and how the player may interact with it.

I feel that now is also an appropriate time to acknowledge the elephant in the room, Unity. A trending topic lately, I'm not sure what the future holds. What I do know is that I want to be ready for anything, additionally I don't like to pass up the opportunity to learn something new. The second project currently in development has transpired over the last 5 days in Godot. I picked up the engine on Monday to see what it can do, and I am thoroughly impressed!  This project is kind of top secret, so just a picture today.

This project started as an attempt to learn Godot by essentially just rebuilding features from pathfinder in GDScript, quickly it became clear to me it would be bigger than that. Currently the project has a player controller that far exceeds both the functionality as well as game feel as pathfinder, I'm having a great time building things that look and feel cool! I'm looking forward to the opportunity to share more of this in the near future.

Your patience and continued support are invaluable, and thank you for understanding the situation at hand. As soon as the technical hurdles are addressed, Pathfinder development will resume.

Thank you for your understanding, the future is bright!
